American Indian

Many collectors consider the native American, or "Indian" portrait pass to be the most spectacular of the six types. The image depicts a warrior of stature wearing an embroidered shirt and impressive war bonnet made of up feathers that would have been awarded by the tribe for acts of bravery or sacrifice. The attire suggests a chief from the Midwestern planes, perhaps Sioux, or Kiowa. Like the other three original portrait tickets of Columbus, Washington, and Lincoln, this pass was printed twice.

The first, actually sent out a month before the fair gates opened, bore no red "A" between the seal and the image. A later printing of the same pass bore the "A." The ultra detailed reverse is printed in a light red with a touch of orange. If you could only have one of the six Souviner Portrait tickets, this might be it.

Vanilla white. Excellent UNC example.

"A" type, with a vanilla while finish, excellent corners, eye appeal and color off the charts.

"A" type, a little dark toning around the front margins from age
(as pictured), but a beautifully preserved pass nonetheless.

Bright white. Excellent AU example. Two lower corners are not perfectly sharp--hard to see--so I'd drop it to AU.
